To reproduce, this cichlid forms strong pairs. Each couple chooses a dark cavity to deposit its eggs and then protects the spawn. The parents fan the embryos and move the young to pits, caring for them until they are independent.

An ambush predator, the oscar quietly hunts fish, crustaceans, and insects in the calm, wooded waters of South America. It has been introduced to various countries with detrimental environmental consequences, notably in Florida and Puerto Rico.

Astyanax jordani, also known as blind cave fish, is a species of fish native to Mexico that lives in underground rivers and caves. Descended from Astyanax mexicanus, these fish have developed a troglodytic lifestyle over time.

It seeks its prey near the surface and sometimes it jumps out of the water. It accommodates well to life in captivity, but it must be maintained in a large aquarium. Also avoid putting in a pond with small fish.

It easily accommodates to life in the aquarium even if it is sometimes aggressive towards other fish. After the eggs have been laid, it is necessary to separate the adults from the eggs. It is sometimes called "jewel" tetra because of its color and the dark spot in the middle of it body.

It is rather "shy". It lives in shaded areas or in natural hiding places where it black and yellow lines allow it to hide. It easily acclimate to an aquarium.

During the breeding season, the male digs a hole in the sand. A female will deposit her eggs there and then protect them in her mouth. After hatching, the young fish stay close to the adults. In case of danger, they seek refuge in their parents' mouths. It is raised in fish farms.

The Australian green treefrog is an arboreal species found throughout much of Australia and New Guinea. Its conservation status is stable, but it faces local threats such as pollution and domestic predation.

Locally known as 'cunchi' or 'pez gato moteado', this small South American catfish has a beige and silver body with black spots. It lives in groups, is active at twilight and dawn, and undertakes long freshwater migrations to reproduce during the rainy season.

It is carnivorous, its sharp teeth have earned it the local name. (Pira = fish, Nha = tooth). Its dangerousness was often exaggerated: it serves as prey of many animals (alligators, giant otter ...). Piranhas are especially dangerous for humans in the dry season, when they lack food.

It is a nocturnal hunter. It lives in the bottom of the rivers, where it remains upright to hide among the reeds. It fits well in a large aquarium. But we must avoid leaving it with small fish that it could eat.
